20SomethingRuns: Marathon Training Update #5

Last weeks Marathon training update wasn’t forgotten – it just didn’t happen. This wasn’t because of Christmas (okay, I took one day off to play with presents from Santa) – it was because I unfortunately came down with some sort of stomach bug/food poisoning which left me attached to my bed and the bathroom. I will not divulge any more information for the sake of your stomach, but it wasn’t nice and did set me back 8 miles. I did however manage to complete a 4 mile interval sprint hours before I was struck down (I like being melodramatic) so all was not lost.

I started back running on Friday 30th with 5k (3.2 miles) even though I still wasn’t feeling 100% and couldn’t stomach more than two slices of toast. I did have to split this workout into two runs which I am gutted about because I was just not well fueled enough to complete both on my first attempt.

Saturday I decided to stick with another 5k rather than taking a rest day (inspired by TheRunnerBeans) just to build back up after last week/Christmas ready for next weeks long run. Thankfully, Lloyd came along for the trip which made for a nice change – his long legs make him a great pacesetter!

New years day was all about PARK RUN!!! Another 5k I know but how could I miss up on a celebration run and of course getting my first 2017 miles clocked? I couldn’t!

Monday started my Long Run countdown with 3.5 early morning miles round the block. I did wait until it was just about light outside as I wouldn’t say that this is the safest of neighbourhoods, but I love getting my run out-of-the-way to enjoy my last day off before work. 

Back to work I went on Tuesday so I ditched the running in favor of a 10k fast spin in the gym and some weight training. Building the booty is great for running but today I decided to do a back workout so I can build some muscles in hope that come the big day they will not fatigue. Who knew running used more muscles than just your legs? 

Wednesday I completed one of my 4 mile runs for the week ahead of my 10 mile long run on Sunday. My pace wasn’t worthy of mentioning but I completed it and to me that’s all that matters. 

The rest of the week is forecast as more Spin, another 4 mile run and of course Sundays 10 mile easy long run. I’ll be sure to let you know how that goes next week seeing as my next run after this will be Windsor Half Marathon!!! I’m not sure if I am more excited or nervous for the event but both nerves and the flow of adrenaline complement my running.
