Race Recap: Race For Life Southend 2017

Fitness, Lifestyle / Sunday, May 14th, 2017

On Sunday I took part in Southend’s annual Race for Life Event at Garrons Park.  This event is always well organised, well marshaled and fun to take part in given the cause.

I had been planning all week to aim for a Personal Best at the race seeing as this was the event I set my 5k PB that has been unbeatable since.  The plan was to head out for lap one at an easy jog pace, then step it up and run the final lap. For once I managed to stick to my pace plan, completing lap one in just under 15 minutes. This left me with enough energy to finish my lap with a sprint finish resulting in a 7 minute PB! My official time was 25:06.

Looking back on the race I could have completed the course in 22-23 minutes, because a “traffic jam” happened on lap two causing the runners to be held back by those walking the course who wouldn’t let us through. Thus I will be aiming for a PB of 22 minutes at Race for Life Basildon in a month’s time.

Please let me know if you took part in Race for Life & why as I love hearing your stories!
